The Rotary Clubs of Malta and Gozo are pleased to announce the launch of a scholarship for international post-graduate studies valued at US$30,000.  The purpose of the Rotary Scholarship is to enable candidates to further their post-graduate studies in areas of study which are aligned with the Rotary Foundation's Areas of Focus. The closing date has been extended to 25 January 2015.

 

Rotary Post-Graduate Scholarship offered by Rotary Clubs of Malta & Gozo

 

Rotary Club Malta, Rotary Club La Valette and Rotary Club Gozo announce a call for applications for ROTARY SCHOLARSHIPS for post-graduate studies in the academic year 2015-2016 sponsored through the Global Grants programme of the Rotary Foundation.  This scholarship is only open to residents of Malta & Gozo.

 
The purpose of the Rotary Scholarships programme is to enable candidates to further their post graduate studies internationally in areas of study which must be aligned with the Rotary Foundation's Areas of Focus, namely:
  • Peace and conflict prevention/ resolution
  • Disease prevention and treatment
  • Water and other sanitation
  • Maternal and child health
  • Literacy and basic education
  • Economic and community development
 
The programme sponsors international, post-graduate, academic qualifying studies in these areas of focus, is applicable to residents of the Republic of Malta and is valued at US$30,000 for a period of 1 year or spread over up to 4 years. Prospective scholars will be required to show proof of selection to the chosen university before the grant will receive final approval.  Proof of selection is not required at the point of application.
 
The Rotary Foundation encourages scholars to participate in Rotary club events or service projects in the location of their studies. 
 
TERM OF THE SCHOLARSHIP:    Scholarships can be for between one and four years of regular academic graduate full-time study.   The scholarship may be used only for studies which are aligned with the Rotary Foundation's areas of focus but not for unsupervised research, medical internship or residency, or for full-time employment.  Applicants must have already completed a first degree when the scholarship begins. This scholarship is only open to residents of Malta & Gozo.
 
WHAT DOES THE SCHOLARSHIP COVER?   The scholarship provides a grant of US$30,000.  Funding is intended to defray costs associated with the normal University course fees,  round-trip transportation, room and board, and educational supplies. 
 
APPLICATION PROCEDURES AND DEADLINES:   Applicants are required to apply on this application form and send it addressed to the Rotary Clubs of Malta & Gozo via e-mail to scholarships@rotary.org.mt together with their Curriculum Vita by not later than 25th January 2015 (previous deadline has been extended).  All applications will be acknowledged following receipt.
 
EVALUATION PROCEDURES:
Following receipt of applications, a committee representing the three Rotary Clubs in Malta & Gozo will evaluate applications and short-listed candidates will be requested to attend an interview.  Selection of a preferred candidate from the Maltese Islands will be made together with a runner-up.  The Malta area endorsed preferred candidate will then compete among other candidates from Sicily for selection by the Rotary Sicily & Malta District's Committee for one of two such scholarships that will be granted by Rotary District 2110, Sicily & Malta..
 
District-endorsed applications will then need to submit an on-line application to the Rotary Foundation. Applicants will be required tp provide evidence of acceptance from the university of their choice before the scholarship is eventually awarded but not at this point in the application process.
