Prof Conrad Thake
Envisioning the Orient – The Ottoman Muslim Cemetery in Malta

Prof. Conrad Thake is an architect and architectural historian. He graduated B.E.&A.(Hons.) from the University of Malta (1988) and pursued postgraduate studies at the University of Waterloo, Canada with an MA degree in Urban and Regional Planning (1991) and a Ph.D. in Architecture from the University of California at Berkeley, USA (1996).

He has co-authored with Dr. Quentin Hughes, the two volumes, Malta – The Baroque Island, (2003) and Malta – War & Peace, an Architectural Chronicle 1800-2000, (2005). Other books written by him include Contemporary Architecture in Malta, The Ottoman Muslim Cemetery in Malta, and Portals of Valletta. Thake has published in several prestigious international journals such as Abitare la Terra, L’Arca, Demetra, Muqarnas, Palladio, and Spazio e Società.

Thake is a Salzburg fellow and a Member of CICA - Comité International des Critiques d'Architecture / International Committee of Architectural Critics. He is currently an associate professor in the Art and Art History department within the Faculty of Arts, University of Malta.
