Rotary Club Malta held its annual Handover Dinner at the Royal Malta Yacht Club, celebrating the club’s achievements and honoring Rtn. Robert von Brockdorff for 38 years of dedicated service. The evening featured heartfelt tributes, fun activities, and a €440 fundraiser in support of the newly forming Rotaract Club Malta.

On Monday evening, Rotary Club Malta held its annual Handover Dinner at the Royal Malta Yacht Club – a memorable occasion that marked the close of the Rotary year and celebrated the exceptional service of Rtn. Robert von Brockdorff.

We were delighted to be joined by members of Rotary Club Gozo and Rotary Club La Valette, as well as representatives of the newly formed Rotaract Club Malta. The evening featured heartfelt speeches, a review of the club’s achievements over the past year by President Jelle Houtsma-Grech, and the official handover of the chain as he begins his second term as Club President.

A highlight of the evening was the moving tribute to Robert von Brockdorff, who has stepped down after 38 years of dedicated service to Rotary. Rob, now in his eightieth year, was presented with:

  • A photo book capturing moments from his decades of service

  • An Honorary Membership of the club

  • A Rotary District Award

  • A commemorative medal

Many attendees spoke fondly of Rob’s impact on Rotary in Malta and his instrumental role in helping establish Rotary Club La Vallette.

In addition, Rtn. Robert Ghirlando was recognised with a Club Service Certificate presented on behalf of the District Governor.

To add a touch of fun to the evening, guests enjoyed a lively game of Human Bingo, with Rtn. Mustafa Gulen won a hamper of food and wine. Impressively, the evening ran exactly to schedule, and the food and service provided by the Royal Malta Yacht Club were outstanding.

The event raised €440, which will go towards supporting the launch of the new Rotaract Club Malta – a promising step in expanding our Rotary family.

Special thanks go to Rtn. Sue Simons for organising the evening, and to all who contributed to its success.
