Ending Polio in Nigeria: The Fight Continues

Whenever a disease is close to eradication, there is always the chance it may fight back. Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened this July in Nigeria, when three cases of polio were reported in Borno State. Never one to back down from a challenge though, Rotary members are, once again, on the front lines, working side-by-side with the Nigerian government and our Global Polio Eradication Initiative partners to conduct emergency vaccination campaigns in Nigeria and neighboring countries to stop the disease from spreading.

Outbreaks like this serve as a reminder that every country needs to remain vigilant against polio by strengthening disease surveillance systems and vaccinating every child. We have beaten polio in this part of the world before and we are confident we can -- and will -- do it again.
